Périgord and Quercy are famous for their French specialities: truffles, " foie gras" and "cassoulet". They also offer such regional specialities as steaklets of duck, duck drummets, stuffed neck, gizzard salad and pike terrine. If you enjoy more classic dishes, many small inns as well as the big restaurants offer varied menus.
Cheeses are also fine: Roquefort is king, but "Bleu des Causses" is also tasty. Cabecou, soft or dry, is a real discovery.
The wines of Southwest France are more and more renowned and can be drunk with all the great meals. Gaillac's vineyards are 10 km away from OUSTAL DE MI-TOU. Their wines are particularly various. The more typical vine-plants are Braucol (fer Servadou), Syrah, Duras, Lenc de l'El, Muscadelle and Mauzac.
The vineyard of Quercy has spread out considerably recently. It produces a wine that goes perfectly with the local produce.
The wines of Frontonnais are known for their balanced finish.
The Cahors vineyard, where the Auxerrois vine-plant is best-known, produces strong red wines.
The gastronomy of Southwest France preserves the authentic tang of the soil, the restaurant owners getting their supplies directly from small producers. For a complete view of the local trade, don't forget to visit Saint Antonin's market on Sunday mornings.
Visiting the vineyards
The visit begins at VAOUR, 10 km from SAINTE-SABINE, with the GAILLACOIS, divided into several lots. The surroundings of Cahusac remind Tuscany's landscapes. Keep heading toward Gaillac, walking along the small roads near the main road, or go towards Cordes. For those who wish to discover other vineyards, there are the COTEAUX du QUERCY, CAHORS and FRONTONNAIS, near SAINTE-SABINE.
